About Phyllis Haig
I help clients lovingly see themselves as interesting people within an unfolding journey. With an abiding faith in the resiliency and adaptability of each person, I trust that healing and integration take place naturally when the right intervention is provided. Underlying negative beliefs that define one’s perception can be uprooted and replaced with more effective strategies. I see symptoms as tactics and use this view to help the client get ready to develop and implement more effective life tools. By attuning to the developmental needs of the client, I am able to view the client in the context of their relationships and culture, whether that culture is ancestral, social, spiritual or age group. I hold an effective but safe container for the therapy to be about and for the client, practice professional ethics and, of course, hold the strictest confidentiality.

Because my style is eclectic, warm, effective, and resourceful, I connect with clients deeply and quickly.  With a clear sense of treatment needs, we work together to develop goals and plans.  Utilizing a variety of state-of-the-art skills (breathwork, body-awareness, EMDR, guided fantasy, writing exercises, homework, cognitive-behavioral, to name a few), I tend to use a brief therapy, strategic, results-based approach.  I don’t believe in wasting time in cases that are capable of more rapid shifts and feel that change can usually occur in a brief time when the right tools are used. I also provide long-term, in-depth therapy when indicated.

The individuals I see often work on habit and addiction recovery, second stage recovery, trauma survival, parenting and family systems issues, phobias, depression and anxiety, career and personal coaching, dissociative disorders, dual diagnosis, creativity blocks, self-esteem and shame healing, and inner family repairing.  The couples who come to me usually work on communication skills, loyalty breaches, sexuality problems, anger management and substance abuse/codependency.

As a licensed MFT for 22 years, I have valuable long-term experience in many settings. I have taught university and junior college courses, offered seminars, run groups, and supervised staff and interns. I work with individuals, families, and couples, in long and short term therapy. I offer appointments 5 days a week, day or evening hours available.

I also help you laugh more.
