About Dan Sands
My work in psychotherapy is based on the Existential/Humanistic theoretical
orientation to understanding the human condition and the practice of
the healing arts. Primary sources for my practice of psychotherapy are
the books Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl; Childhood
and Society by Erik Erikson; and Sanity, Madness and the Family by
R.D. Laing and A. Esterson. The common goals for Existential/Humanistic
Therapy are:
- Relief from depression and anxiety
- Taking a look at the relationship between core values, feelings, and behavior
- Finding new ways to look at, understand and have choices about troubling feelings, thoughts, and behaviors
- Talking about relationships: what we hope for, how we want to be, what happens when a relationship is healthy, and how to do a little better
- Talking about the things we might never feel safe enough to talk about apart from being in psychotherapy
